A BLACK EYE!!!!
A boy with two black eyes came into a room where several of his friends were. One of them said to him, "Hey, who gave you those shiners?" He said, "Nobody gave them to me. You have to fight for these." -- There are a lot of things in life that you have to fight for!

MESSAGE    KNOW YOUR PURPOSE       PASTOR
LUKE 9:51
INTRODUCTION: THERE IS COMMERCIAL FOR SOME KIND OF MEDICATION AND THE TAG LINE IS “A BODY AT REST TENDS TO STAY AT REST”.  INACTION IN OUR LIVES CAN LOWER OUR DESIRE AND HURT OUR OPINION OF OURSELVES.
I HAVE SHARED WITH YOU THE BIBLE READING SERIES I AM DOING AND LAST WEEK THE WERE CENTERED AROUND THE BOOK OF NEHEMIAH…THIS IS A NEW READING SECTION CALLED THE ‘major people of the Bible”  it has been an INTERESTING read each morning.  nehemiah is a major PERSON because of his desire to build the ruined walls of the citY of JERUSALEM, folks were discouraged and when nehemiah heard of the disrepair of the walls he, grieved and fasted and asked the king for PERMISSION to return to his home city and rebuild the walls…he set himself to the task at hand…people made fun of him and tried to DISTRACT him…four time the leaders tried to stop him by asking him to come down from the walls…each time his answer war  “i am doing a great work so i cannot come down” neh 6:3
nehemiah had a great purpose he understood what it was and that it was his OPPORTUNITY to do god’s bidding.

all disciples past and present are given a purpose… ”to make disciples”

jesus in the PASSAGE FOUND in luke said that jesus was heading to jerusalem and would not be distracted though all around him knew it was DANGEROUS… luke says that …Jesus STEADFASTLY set his face to go to jerusalem

i do not know if you have ever been compelled to some kind of purpose larger that your self or that you have thought about your purpose buT there are three things we all must come to grips with and have a bit of UNDERSTANDING about:

I.           life is a journey…life has a purpose—we must make sure we find it...if we don’t we will carry an unhappy burden...stagnation and staleness will enter into our lives without us understanding our purpose.

in this journey we call life it is important not to lose your reason for living for you will become cynical and DISGRUNTLED and PESSIMISTIC.

II.         keep moving…luke 9:62   But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God  keep looking forward…not doing the what if……remember jesus kept his eyes on his purpose…he said i came to seek and to save those who are lost and i came that they might have life and have it more ABUNDANTLY!  his purpose was to lead us to grace and the to develop our lives so that we would have a full life…full of him and his blessings.  KEEPING our focus helps us when people knock us down and we can get back up….we may fail and if we are not careful guilt will take over…guilt is not helpful unless it leads us to change.  to many of us seem to wallow in guilt and sin some spend too much time WORRYING about their failures and it keeps them from their purpose…the purpose they have been given.  when we repent of our sin we will rise with the help of the forgiver and be free from guilt.
III.       do not be DISCOURAGED…easy to say hard to do….
a man had a job but it was 80 blocks away from his work and he would have to walk…the first day he said i can walk on block…then the next…then he was at work…waling one block at a time….
the five year plan…a lady took in older folks in her large home all had retired and had no family… we watched one day as each of them seemed to be missing our on life…she asked them each to set a goal….she called it the five year plan…each person had different desires and she challenged them to PERUSE that dream…the change was remarkable…renewed purpose

conclusion: we have come to this time to remember that each of us has a purpose and we need to live out that purpose…it is not god’s intent to ignore any of his children…he wants us to love our selves

as we love others and equally through that have the abundant life he giveS to enjoy to his fullest… and BELIEVE in ourselves as much as he does

nOTE!!!  THESE ARE PREACHING NOTE FROM SUNDAY OCTOBER 13, 2013.  I HOPE THEY ARE A REMINDER TO YOU THAT YOU ARE IMPORTANT AND THAT GOD HAS A PURPOSE FOR YOU….

I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT GILLIAM SUNDAY!!!!
GOD BLESS YOU!!!
EMILE
